The 2019 was the first year the competition was open to southern Italian regions, beyond Sicily, such as Basilicata, Calabria, Campania and Apulia. The jury of international experts that evaluated the wines was composed of:

Etna Doc Bianco

1st CLASSIFIED
Etna Doc Bianco n’Ettaro 2018 – Masseria Setteporte
A very good white wine that combines the freshness of the mountain, the minerality of the volcano and the sunny weather of the southern slopes of Mount Etna.

2nd CLASSIFIED
Etna Doc Bianco 2018 – Travaglianti
Vibrant, pleasant, fresh, it is a white wine produced by a very young winery that we are sure will give us nice surprise in the future.

3nd CLASSIFIED
Etna Doc Bianco Superiore Affiu 2018 – Eredi Di Maio
Vibrant, sharp and lively, as well as intense and consistent. It is produced from old vines located in Milo, great quality area for volcanic white wines.

Etna Doc Rosso

1st CLASSIFIED
Etna Doc Rosso Badalarc’ 2015 – Spuches
From contrada Rampante in Solicchiata, one of the prestigious areas of the northern slope, a red wine that strikes for freshness and balance, displaying in its herbal notes a fascinating distinctive character.

2nd CLASSIFIED
Etna Doc Rosso Riserva Zottorinoto 2015 – Cottanera
Complexity and tannic elegance are the main characteristics of this Riserva. Both on the nose and on the palate it offers a rare smoothness and a firm structure.

3nd CLASSIFIED
Etna Doc Rosso Piano dei Daini 2016 – Tenute Bosco
Harmonious, vivid, with fruit notes and hints of lava in evidence, it is a slim red wine, with great drinkability that well reflects the territory.

Sicilian red wines from Nero d’Avola (Sicilia Doc and other Doc)

1st CLASSIFIED
Eloro Doc Fontanelle 2014 – Curto
From the far southeast of Sicily, the cradle of the Nero d’Avola. Intense and Mediterranean, it’s a red wine with great personality that shows the potentiality of the grape variety and the terroir.

2nd CLASSIFIED
Sicilia Doc Nero d’Avola Donnatà 2018 – Alessandro di Camporeale
Varietal, direct and immediate, it is an easy to drink Nero d’Avola that stands out for its freshness, fruit intensity as well as dynamism.

3nd CLASSIFIED
Sicilia Doc Nero d’Avola Azhar 2017 – Summanera
Great fruit intensity with prune in evidence, a delicate spicy note and a smooth sip inspire us the sunshine and the aromatic richness of Sicily.

Sicilia Doc Grillo and Sicilia Doc Catarratto

Sicilia Doc Grillo Lalùci 2018 – Baglio del Cristo di Campobello
Freshness, aromatic elegance and length: from the chalky soil of Campobello di Licata, in the province of Agrigento, one of the most successfully Sicilian wine.

Sicilia Doc Grillo Vigna di Mandranova 2018 – Alessandro di Camporeale
Layered bouquet of aromas includes wild flowers and citrus fruits before a balanced, long and savory sip.

Sicilia Doc Grillo Timpa 2018 – Feudo Montoni
Delicate, elegant and very well balanced. It shows the distinctive character of Grillo, produced on the inland hills of Sicily.

Faro Doc Oblì 2015 – Tenuta Enza La Fauci
Great personality. Complex, elegant, marine and Mediterranean, it needs to be tasted slowly to catch all the shades. From a very small Doc, very few bottles that worth pursuing.

2nd CLASSIFIED
Cerasuolo di Vittoria Docg Classico Poggio di Bortolone 2017 – Poggio di Bortolone
From one of the best producer of the category, a fruity, juicy and fulfilling red wine.

Cerasuolo di Vittoria Docg 2016 – Tenuta Bastonaca
Crispy fruit and floral notes together with spicy notes and tannic elegance, these are the distinctive character of this pleasant red wine.

Sicilia Doc Zibibbo Rajah 2018 – Gorghi Tondi 
Extremely aromatic, seductive with its aromas of rose petal, jasmine and tropical fruit, it’s the dry Zibibbo of western Sicily, a refreshing and fulfilling white wine.

Sicilia Doc Insolia 2018 – Feudo Principi di Butera
It offers the clean and distinctive ripe stone fruit aromas and flavors as well as the acidity of this ancient Sicilian white grape variety.

Monreale Doc Catarratto Lu Bancu 2018 – Feudo Disisa
Sharp, dynamic and very long, it shows freshness both in aromas and in flavours. A white wine that never tires.

Taurasi Docg

Taurasi Docg Riserva Vigna Cinque Querce 2011 – Salvatore Molettieri
It is a dark and deep red wine with incredible strength and energy. Rich, powerful, generous, it shows nice acidity, vigorous and robust tannins as well as an almost endless persistence. Complete and harmonic.

Taurasi Docg Vigna Cinque Querce 2012 – Salvatore Molettieri
Complex, ripe, spicy and warm as well as intense with smooth tannins. It looks like yet another jewel of a winery able to constantly express quality.

Taurasi Docg  2014 – Macchie S. Maria
Cherry, tobacco and undergrowth, before a sip which combines a lively acidity with an excellent consistence as well as strong tannins. A balanced and well-made Taurasi.

Greco di Tufo Docg  Giallo D’Arles 2018 – Quintodecimo
An outstanding wine capable to transmit cleanliness and precision like few other white wines of the category. A wine absolutely to try to appreciate value and potentiality.

Greco di Tufo Docg  2018 – San Paolo Claudio Quarta
Elegant, intensely floral and delicately fruity, it shows on the palate the balance between its evident crispness and its consistency. Pleasant and versatile.

Fiano di Avellino Docg  Contrada Sant’Aniello 2014 – Vigne Guadagno
A complete white wine capable to show the aromatic richness of the grape variety with a notable complexity grown over these past years. There are also freshness, verticality and length for a good and fulfilling sip.

Fiano di Avellino Docg Ex Cinere Resurgo 2018 – Terredora
From some of the most suited areas of the appellation, a wine with flower and ripe fruit flavors together with citrus notes and honey hints. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and persistent.

Fiano di Avellino Docg 2018 – Vesevo
Fresh and elegant but also generous and intense, it stands out for clear stone fruit aromas, enriched with hazelnut as well as floral notes. Excellent drinkability.

Aglianico del Vulture Doc and Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Docg

1st CLASSIFIED
Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Docg Da Ginestra 2015 – Grifalco
Elegant and complex on the nose with red fruit characters, a tiny floral hint as well as mineral notes that remind the iron and a balsamic touch. On the palate, it shows a very good structure that appears very well balanced by a pronounced acidity with a progression towards a long, sapid finish.

Aglianico del Vulture Doc Titolo 2017 – Elena Fucci
Intense, deep, complex, mineral and slightly balsamic, it stands out for its aromatic definition, energy and completeness as well as for its powerful sip.

Aglianico del Vulture Doc Grifalco 2017 – Grifalco
A red wine that perfectly combine structure, territory and pleasantness. Its spicy and smoked profile is intriguing.

Es Red 2015 – Gianfranco Fino
An extraordinary red wine, complete and layered. The wine was awarded with the highest score among all the wines in the competition. Complexity, enveloping, precision as well as varied and stratified aromas clearly show the great potentiality of both grape variety and territory.

Gioia del Colle Primitivo Doc Chakra 2017 – Giovanni Aiello
It represents the other spirit of Primitivo grape, the one of the rocky soil of Murgia. The aromatic richness comes out with great elegance that is well balanced by freshness and verticality. Territory and personality.

Primitivo di Manduria Doc Raccontami 2016 – Vespa
Rich, fruity, creamy, round and smooth. The depth and the power of the grape are masterly coordinated and harmonized to give us a very enjoyable sensorial experience.

Silver Series Vigne Vecchie 2015 – Vigneti del Salento
It shows the opulence and the sunshine of Salento, with a rich and ripe nose and a structured palate, full-bodied and persistent that feels a bit endless.

Zacinto 2018 – Masseria Cuturi
Red fruit notes together with spicy ones, before a warm, smooth, inviting and well-balanced sip able to enhance several dishes.

An intense and ripe red wine, with cherries, figs and sweet spices. It is juicy, crispy and very pleasant. Excellent value for money.

Sharp, vibrant and long, it’s a pleasant to drink rosé wine. You don’t often even notice to finish all bottle.

A mosaic of red fruit, floral hints and a well-balanced texture in a flexible, easy to drink rosé.

Fresh, crispy and fruity as well as intense and consistent, it expresses with great balance the flavor and the sunny weather of the far southeast of Sicily.
